The micro-grants are part of the SSEN Transmission Argyll and Kintyre 275kV Local Fund. This fund supports local communities that live near a series of transmission projects taking place in the region, which are collectively called the Argyll and Kintyre 275kV Strategy.
Minard Community Trust is managing the micro-grants for the West Loch Fyne area (ie between Crarae to the north of Minard and Middle Kames to the south of Lochgair). The Trust is able to award small grants (up to £500 or £1,000 in exceptional cases) to support the local community.
Micro-grants can be awarded to:
- Non-constituted groups
- Constituted groups
- Individuals who are helping others or representing their community
Micro-grants can support general charitable activities that bring a benefit to the local community, but will not support: the advancement of religion or party politics; or activities that are the statutory responsibility of statutory authorities. The Trust can only award grants that benefit the West Loch Fyne area – similar grants funded by SSEN Transmission are available in the adjacent community council areas.
The micro-grants cannot be used for:
- Activities likely to bring SSEN Transmission or its subsidiaries into disrepute
- Anti-electrical infrastructure / renewable energy activities
- Retrospective funding (i.e. paying for costs incurred before a decision on an application for micro-grant funding can be made)
- The costs of energy consumption
- The repayment of loans or payment of debts
- Recoverable costs (i.e. VAT costs that can be recovered)
- Individuals for their direct personal gain (micro-grants should be for actions or achievements that bring benefit to their area)
